Re: SOLIDWORKS Business Model Changes Coming in July 2023 - here we go again!!
I've slowly come to a realization that's been helping me. I used to ask, "Who is the real customer?" in hopes of figuring out whose interests are really being primarily served. For instance, consider a newspaper who sells both subscriptions as well as ads. Things get muddy quickly, and tho...

Re: Looking for what's happening with SW over last couple of years
Thanks, all! So it sounds like while the software isn't necessarily "bad" yet, they intend to eventually get there by forcing people into 3DXP---which, judging by what happened with the Jive/3DXP switch-over, isn't looking quite as promising as prophetic. Brilliant. I'm sure customers will...

Looking for what's happening with SW over last couple of years
Howdy, all. I've been out of the Solidworks realm for the last couple of years, putting increasingly more of my effort into pursuits other than design and am still using v2020. What's happening with Solidworks lately, good or bad, with the software, with the company, and of course with the forum(s)....

Re: SWYM site and general reactions
I agree, Matt, and recall my own hearty blog (and insider testing) participation from that era, and in hindsight I would not have been so openly brutal. I recall showing up to a regional SWUG meeting and Richard Doyle knew who I was as soon as I walked into one of their sessions---and this was NOT a...

Re: Video Cards, Gaming Systems and shortages?
No, my nephew hit the nail on the head. Cards are being sucked up to mine Bitcoin. At the price of 60,000 Federal Reserve Notes, you can do well mining tiny fractions of BTC. Those cards also work great as space heaters.

Re: Does anyone actually use 3DExperience?
OK, I made it to the tenth page of the SW forum thread before my attention lapsed to more interesting things, like snow falling. Zoomed to the end and it's at 35 pages! Yow! Folks have lots to say about all this. I'm probably skipping over some juicy drama, but I think I'm good with that.

Re: How to Use the 3DSwym Platform?
LOTS of stuff written about 8-9 years ago is coming true. I'll leave that without any tedious (and unwelcome?) extrapolation. "Until the pain..." blah, blah, blah. I DID take a peek at the SWZYXM forum/platform/thing. Interface looks like a blender exploded on the kitchen walls. I suppose ...

Re: Does anyone actually use 3DExperience?
What's 3DExperience and 3DSWYM? I don't recall ever seeing either. Ohhhh...boy, have you missed out! https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/247614 TL;DR......DSS is killing the current forum and moving it to a Facebook-type app that is locked behind a Google-proof wall, therefore will not be visible t...

Re: Does anyone actually use 3DExperience?
Right, sorry.
What's 3DExperience and 3DSWYM? I don't recall ever seeing either.
On the other hand, it's not even sarcastic. Last I'd seen, there was no "there" there.
And---thanks for setting up an alternative! Great to see so many already jumping over.

Re: How to Use the 3DSwym Platform?
I had problems with Eng-Tips because they banned me early on for answering a question about how to get work as a contractor. They accused me of advertising my business <shock> I never went back. That's not cool, as I certainly rode along that borderline as much as I could at eng-tips while ...

Re: Welcome!
Still smells like new paint---and I'm late! Over the last year I've increasingly spent time doing non-design work, fixing/building computers, learning a new gig. "And now for something completely different..." Thanks, Matt! I stumbled in here after checking the SW forum for the first time ...
