Re: Current Hourly Rate of Freelance CAD Drafters?
If I were to go into business for myself, for design work, I would be charging $100/hour minimum. For drafting work that someone else designed, I would almost prefer to do it by the job. But $50 to $75/hour would be reasonable. Thanks Dan. That's what I usually do - roll the 2D CAD work into the wh...

Re: Current Hourly Rate of Freelance CAD Drafters?
Depends if you are hiring a contractor direct vs going through a contract company. The latter is probably roughly $50-$70 an hour but the company gets some cut of that. Also depends on how hard the drafting/modeling work is. Some parts and small assemblies are fairly easy to work with. But working ...

Re: Current Hourly Rate of Freelance CAD Drafters?
It depends on if you want to do the work or not. As a full time job, that's probably a 25-30$/hr gig, but as a contractor, you have to charge more than that. $50/hr might be high if you're not doing any design. I would get $75-100 for doing surfacing, plastics and mold work. So I'd guess in the $40...

Current Hourly Rate of Freelance CAD Drafters?
I am a Mecahnical Engineer and SolidWorks Designer with my own freelancing business. I do 3D Modeling, CAD Work and Product Design. Recently I got an offer to do more of a CAD Drafter role. It would solely be doing things like ECO's, BOM Changes in the MRP system, and updating all the drawings accor...

Re: SolidWorks Crashing - Strange Behavior
Reason we stopped also is that we noticed that the corruption sometimes came from an even earlier save that hadn't caused issue up until now. THAT'S interesting. SolidWorks Registry wipe is done just about every 6 months on our computers to reduce risk of corruption. That's also very interesting. T...

How to Enter Dimension Value Automatically When Creating Sketch Dimensions?
I want to be able to type the dimension value automatically after I create the dimension (without having to double click the dimension).
Mine was doing this before, but I lost my custom settings, and now I can't find which setting this is.

Once you have it, save one that will never change that will become a start-up template, and one that will be 'yours'. This way, you ensure having a custom settings that is proper for all the company and that never corrupts itself and one that is the same as the company but with it's customization t...

That was what I was going to suggest,to clear your registry. Hopefully you have a fresh restore-file to use so you do not have to recreate your entire settings. Hah. No, I did not. Do you have PDM? Not using PDM. Found the problem though. There was a 3rd party Add-In that was seemingly the culprit. SolidWorks Crashing - Strange Behavior
Created this extremely simple part and saved it. Now any time I open that part SolidWorks crashes. What's really strange - is if I open a DIFFERENT, older SolidWorks part first, then I can open this one without crashing. Any insights why just opening this part would crash SolidWorks? And/or why open...

To keep the top and bottom clean, you have to create this ledge at the PL, which SW calls "Step Draft". It's more difficult to set up, but the results are cleaner if you can deal with the mismatch. Hi Matt (and any others). That mismatch is what my parts have now but I would never use tha...

But a quick search for engineering jobs across the U.S. indicated pretty much nobody was using it.

Thanks everyone. I've realized the Draft feature is not the right tool here. I've also simplified the parting line. There was just too much disparity there to get a good surface it seemed.
