Re: PDM 2024 SP2

So by process of elimination and a bunch of swear words:

Copy tree works fine if we don't include drawings.
Copy tree works fine including drawings if we have created a new drawing after the upgrade.

So there will be a lot of redone drawings on our end.

They aren't visible at all. Same folder to copy tree into. Refresh the explorer. Lather, rinse, repeat, crash out...... Just another fun day ending in 'y'. I'm trying out some other theories in doing the copy tree. I'll post again if I find out anything through my trial runs. Have a good weekend.

PDM 2024 SP2

So we were forced to upgrade due to a customer last week. Things were fine up until Monday/Tuesday of this week, when all of a sudden: We could do one copy tree. Then on the second one, copy tree would crap out. The serial numbers would get pulled from the vault, so, hey, let's try searching for the...

Re: CHECK YOUR SYSTEM - warning keeps popping up!

The only red x is the system "There is no information on your configuration in our database" Even though it's Boxx ,even though I have run the diagnostic test on it and submitted to their database. So there's that. I have just come to accept "It's SW, and it's a day ending in 'y'"...

It's been like that f..o..r..e..v..e..r. I wish that if you typed that in, you could chose ID or OD and then it would dimension the sketch appropriately.

Re: Vault view on a different drive.

In theory I think so, but SW settings use an absolute path that points inside our vault from C: drive so I would need to modify them all to accomodate one install... the ideal scenario would be to have the vault view under c: pointing at the d: drive (ssd) but it is probably not feasible. IT screwe...

Re: BOM Item numbers across multipl sheets

Use display states instead of configurations. Then the BOM will be identical on each sheet. Hide rows in the BOM that aren't relevant on each sheet: image.png I asked for this years ago so that SW would mimic SW Composer with the BOMs. The BOM table only gets populated with the parts that are ballo...

"we put it into a different PDM workflow to automatically omit copying." Yeah there's that too. I had former places set up for hardware workflow, the folder method, plus setting the toolbox check box. Someone was going to have to try reaaaaallyl hard to mess up a copy tree.

While working with one of our configured hardware files I was looking for a part number (config) on the data card and got to a point that I thought was worth sharing. Re: How to set default gauge table in new parts?

We have 4 excel sheets for the different kinds of materials. Then we use the desired bend table and gauge on the first sheet metal feature. It would be a GD nightmare to do a different template for each material. And most likely more clicks when you want to change thickness or alloy. Edit/add: Since...

Can you set it in the system settings, and then lock down those settings in the admin install? I haven't messed around with it, but I believe the admin can lock down certain aspects of the system settings so individual users can't change them. Do a copy tree on that part/drawing and replace. That should start you over with a clean part.

Is it during the initial check-in? At a previous place I had the variables clear out during the auto-transition from "initial state" to "WIP". That way if were doing a copy tree, all of the revision variables, part description, etc, would be wiped out. It made you check out the n...

Re: sheet metal Flat Pattern bounding box, how to add offset?

Add 2 more properties named "Skeleton X" "Skeleton Y". Use equations to add on your skeleton width. Then you can put those values into your drawing notes linking in the new variables.

Re: sheet metal Flat Pattern bounding box, how to add offset?

Create a sketch in your flat pattern configuration after flat pattern feature. With the bounding box visible, select the bounding box, and offset whatever distance you want. This will update in your drawing when/if you make changes. it will only be a rectangle doing it this way. I don't know if conv...

Re: All the ways a new solidworks file can be started

Make sure you have the vault getting the latest version of the template folder/templates upon logging in. You might be clearing the local cache on the client computers, then SW won't be able to find them when logging in. I believe I had it set up to not clear the local cache of the template folder, ...

I always kept a separate hardware/component library. I'd create the toolbox components, but then save them off as there own part. You can modify the number of holes in equation, it'll suppress the pattern if you go outside of the 12-18" range. I don't know if this is what you're looking for, since it's hard to tell without a pic/example. I have another one set up with if statements and integer that can have a maximum of 1...

Re: Which Way To Go?

In SW the only way to do that is delete the edge flange (which can really suck if you have an elaborate sketch), edit the base flange SK and add a notch to inset the flange, and then make a new flange and attach it to the edge in the notch. There is no need to delete any edge-flange in SW. Just edi...
