Re: Specify direction angular dimension
Just to clarify, I did delete the example shown & tried to select the angle reference lines in the opposite direction thinking that might do the trick, but it always defaults to this counter-clockwise orientation. The reason I would prefer this optionality is my rotary table increments in the op...

Specify direction angular dimension
Is there a way to toggle the angular dimension reverse to the default using the same vertical zero reference? (166 would be 194 & 124 would be 236 degrees). SW-2024-SP3.1

Re: transpose sketch elements onto different plane
Sorry for duplicating one of my own posts, but this follow-up better belongs here. Well I don't know what I was doing incorrectly before, but it turns out I can use Derived Sketch function to copy/transpose a sketch to any other plane, thus creating a new sketch. I was able to transpose to a part fa...

Re: add relations fix questions
Thanks for replies. Hopefully the end result will add some context. The task was to 3D model this piping system based on partial datum references sketched in the source 2D DWG file. I first needed to select the necessary pipe entities DWG & copy them into my 3 primary planes, preserving their di...

Re: add relations fix questions
You touched on some things I'm still struggling with a bit & the reason for these workarounds. When I go through the import wizard to bring in a DWG file, I assumed I could prescribe which SW plane to align it with using the drop down selection. But it always seems to place it onto SW Front View...

add relations fix questions
I've imported a DXF from a 2D export. In hindsight this should have been obvious what was going on, but I started drawing my own construction lines within the sketch to evaluate things. Like is this feature symmetric to that feature, or is that point horizontal to that line...etc. But because the en...

Re: transpose sketch elements onto different plane
Thanks for reminding me of derived sketch. I should use that function more in normal modelling. What I had not appreciated is that if I changed the dimensions of the base sketch, then all the derived sketches also get updated which is very useful. Its important to do the key selections in right sequ...

Re: transpose sketch elements onto different plane
Thanks for that video. I was just blowing past the little sub panel that pops up after the 2D file loads, but turns out it has some useful utilities to specify & reorient sketch elements to preferred planes & reference those positions to develop 3D model. Easier than what I was doing manually.

Re: Representing multi-layer composite materials in SW
I can kind of visualize what you are doing because I have a bit of (amateur) experience in this area where gram counting & strength is a big deal. But not fully comprehending the goals or maybe accuracy expectations behind the end result. SW accurately computes surface areas of a 3D parts. So yo...

transpose sketch elements onto different plane
I made a dummy part to demonstrate the workflow I am intending to replicate. It is derived by a profile curve in one plane (say top view) and another profile curve in a different plane (say side view). Then project those 2 curves to make a composite (3D) curve. Then sweep a section profile along it....

Re: workflow to save & use opposite hand version of part
I'm on SW24 sp3 & so far so good. This was a simple example to flush out the workflow, the more complicated part is yet to come. But at a simple level if I make a change to the master part (grey) changes become faithfully updated in the mirrored part (pink) which get saved out to the standalone ...

Re: workflow to save & use opposite hand version of part
Looks like I missed this check box during the 3-step mirroring wizard. Nothing really happens until you save the 'mirror generator' assembly then it kicks out a part. But I was able to open the mirrored part standalone or apply it to another unrelated assembly or make unique drawings etc. So I guess...

Align section line to an axis
I can't seem to find a method to align a section axis to, in this case, a hole axis. It will lock on the center point, but just free floats over the axis. I tried overlaying a coincident line via Sketch and/or a terminating point to guide it with a second reference, but the section axis does not see...

When I make a drawing & invoke the hole callout, it no longer provides the additional information regarding thread details. Just the nominal pilot hole diameter (0.130"). Yet the annotation for the thread is coming across automatically, so it knows its a threaded hole alright. For some stra...

Re: What controls default front view initial shade darkness?
Hmm, could it be this easy? I just noticed that for whatever reason my new Part template had 3 point faded as the default. Maybe that originated from the SW24 download templates. But when I selected Plain White, the part was that more pleasing pale blue color & +/- remained that way when I sketc...

What controls default front view initial shade darkness?
I've noticed when initially drawing on the front face of a part, the surface color is quite dark grey. To the extent my dimensions are less visible so I'm always toggling wireframe view. But when I sketch on any other part surface, its lighter. What's weird is if I sketch on the front face a second+...

Thanks for comments. The example I included is indeed a standard thread profile available in SW, but that was just a sanity check to see if my methodology was yielding the same resultant values as the calculator. On occasion (unrelated to 3D printing) I do require non-standard threads, or matching a...

Workflow for importing thread methodology
This question happens to be related to threads, but maybe its a more generic question. I keep a dummy part file handy as kind of a mental reminder of how I've been making threads using a handful of dimensions from an online calculator. Its not very complex but I do it infrequently. So I just open it...

What setup parameter within SW tells the drawing to automatically notate the threaded holes? I assume it is somewhere in the drawing template options, but it snot jumping out at me.
