probably want to use Top Down Assembly Modeling for this. meaning you create the new part in the assembly environment. SW surfacing stalled once Mark Biasotti left as he pushed many of the changes you have today in surfacing.

If there is ANY type of vector artwork that is involved in your design and manufacturing process then you will 100% benefit for purchasing a seat of Rhino3D. The goal here is to knock down a heavily segmented (.DXF) or (.SVG)....etc, file into something that is much more manageable for 2D Sketches....

Maker version can only be opened by other maker versions, you would have to save as a step, iges or parasolid to send to commercail verson for solids, dxf\dwg for 2D...

Maybe you could try and get the student version? If so, get the desktop one, stay away from the cloud (SW Connected). Yes as Matt suggested delet and patch if you are removing the rib! I think you'll have to split the top face of the rib to delete and patch. You can also try to do an offset of the edges inwards, say .1" to see if it cuts, then double click and change the dim to a smaller number till it fails. ...

Another trick I use is making solid bodies aka Tap and Stud that give the correct MH size. then you can add the body to the part and either add the stud or subract the tap from the part body using the combine tool. They always make a something like a cabinet that is all one part, not seperate panels so it can be made in the shop, I show them how to split and then rename the bodies and save as a new part to make drawings or put into an assembly. Scan Data is just FRIKIN WOUNDERFUL TO WORK WITH...not I use DezignWorks to reverse our scan with our Romer arm, it can get you 10 to 80% there but you have to make some assumptions during the reversing proccess. doobs you mean it's a muliple body part, correct, not assembly. I have scans like this all the time that I have done myself, due to the parts shape, color, shinnyness and other factors not giving me as good scan. So here is my approach, take it as just a suggestion as you will develop your own way. I do not know Geomagic as I use DezignWorks inside of SolidWorks...
