Here's how I did it. All about order of operation. Only 15 tries.

Re: How to Delete Rounds in Solidworks? Cannot get FilletXpert to select the round.
Don't try to delete everything in one command. You'll need to test and try different sequence. After a while you'll learn which one the delete first. This I end up having to do it this way alot with imported geometry usually to be able to add draft to a feature. As stated earlier, if the face consu...

Re: Workflow for Multibody Part names from Solidworks to Mastercam
We write out the entire mold assembly as one file, in mastercam we move the different components onto the proper level (A plate level 2, B plate level 3, Ejector cavity level 100, etc.) On the floor if one guy is doing the A plate he pulls that part from the master file and creates his own file for ...

Re: Workflow for Multibody Part names from Solidworks to Mastercam
Maybe there is something the way SW or Mastercam handles cut lists or BOM's. When I export assemblies from SW as parasolid and then import into Mastercam the first part in the tree (even if it's in a subassembly) goes on level one, the next part on level 2, the next on level 3, etc. Mastercam lets y...

Re: WANTED: CADKEY 20+
I've used Cadkey since '97 but honestly can't remember when the switch from cd/dvd to download occurred. There were a few versions that used the "dongle" (Cadkey's words) that had to be plugged into the PC to make it work. Pretty sure all that was prior to Keycreator.

Re: Custom thread design - need assistance
Seeing as the part seems to be in some form of plastic, most likely the model will be used for the molding, hence the need for the threads in 3D. This If you want your part molded or 3d printed why would you not model them. As a mold designer when I get a threaded part to be molded without the thre...

Re: SW 2022 SP3 - First Thoughts
One other thing to consider on the broken mirror / upgrade issue, and it's a catch 22 situation. If it is indeed fixed with the next version and you don't upgrade you are stuck with a version that for your workflow is perpetually broken. So the question becomes do you swallow the hard pill and upgra...

Re: How to calculate only external surface area?
One way I can think of, depending on the complexity of the assembly. Create a new part in the assembly, edit that part and do a zero offset of the major exterior surfaces. This part can be analyzed to give you the total surface area.

Re: Unable to use the cavity feature more than once
In order for this to work properly to get the result you want, the top edge of the curved mirror has to be exactly coincident to the top surface of the block. If it is, when the cavity function is performed it will result in two entities, asking which you want to keep, or keep all. Another way to do...

Re: The feature failed to cut the body
Going back to the works on one but not the other almost makes me think there is a system accuracy / tolerance / limit setting someplace that's causing it. Long ago we used to run into that with files from different CAD systems.

To get the radius on both sides split the blue and green part so it is down the centerline of the part. The feature forming the thru hole can either be all on one side or equal amounts on each half. As far as the save issue, based on the screen shot it appears your assembly file doesn't have a name,...

Now that you have the black part you could do a split part feature on that to get both halves.
And same as previous comments, the SW mold tools are a not ready for prime time feature.

To parametric or not to parametric....that is, SW users can also edit with dumb geometry.. so.. it's a choice, no? As a past Pro/e (creo) user I would work in dumb mode or neutral formats a lot. I didn't need parametrics. There is a time/place.. just choose. I design molds, and it is usually easier...

Re: Most common mistakes made by new users?
Maybe the most common newbie mistake is thinking there is one set of rules that can be applied to all parts in all industries. This is also one of the most important things stated. With any CAD system there are a million different ways to draw the same box and circle, and no matter how it's created...

Reminds me of something I heard from one of the long time model makers in the shop many years ago to one of the new guys, " You want me to build it so it will work or how you designed it".Heck, the guys on our shop floor seem to look at prints as mild suggestions.

We use two here on a regular basis, the primary being SW and the second is KeyCreator. Three if you count Mastercam but that's mainly the guys in the shop. We were all CadKey (now KeyCreator) when I started, then transitioned over to SW. We keep two seats of KeyCreator active, we have 6 or 7 seats o...

Once the hurdle of "I know how to do this function in (insert CAD Software name here), how do I do it in this one" is overcome the steepness of the learning curve lessens. Gotta get the basics down first. And if you don't go into it with an open mind willing to embrace the new system it's ...

Re: Draft Analysis
Draft analysis won't work on a part that is in an assembly. Open the part in it's own window so that is the only part being analyzed.
I suspect when you open the part from explorer you are opening just the part and that is why it works correctly.

I also didn't vote because what we would switch to isn't on the list. We are long time KeyCreator users (formerly CadKey) prior to SW and still keep two seats on maintenance for our legacy stuff and it imports files from our overseas suppliers in a more friendlier format than SW. Who doesn't love an...

Re: MoveFace -- To Move or Not to Move
I use it, but it all depends on the the task that needs to be done. I work with imported geometry a lot, if I need to adjust the diameter of five holes of varying depths why do five cuts when I can offset the faces in one step? Or the dreaded cut that won't work due to a geometry condition (if you k...

Re: Does Zero-Thickness-Geometry exist?
My biggest complaint regarding ZTG and SW is if I do something that creates the condition and the software is smart enough to recognize it, then show me where it is so I can fix it. It's not always as obvious as the previous example.

I use it almost daily, started with it in 1997. It was our primary software prior to SW, so a majority of our legacy tool designs are in CadKey \ KeyCreator format. It was a gradual transition to SW, as some things were just quicker \ easier with Cadkey. The push to full SW came when the boss at the...
