FindLostDialog utility (locate a lost dialog)

Unread post by KevinC »

A SolidWorks dialog can sometime get put (or sent) into a non-visible portion of the screen.

Attached is a utility (zipped), "FindLostDialog.exe", which attempts to find a lost dialog, given the dialog's title, and then try to move it to the upper left corner of your monitor so it is visible again.
Although written with SolidWorks in mind, this utility isn't limited to finding only SolidWorks dialogs.

To "install" the utility, simply extract it from the zip file and double click the exe file.
No modifications are made to your computer. Ever.
To "uninstall" the utility, simply delete the exe and zip files.

To avoid the Windows UAC prompts when you run this utility, right click the exe file and select Properties.
Check Unblock and click OK.

To run FindLostDialog, just double click it and a small dialog with a text input box appears:

As it states on the dialog, enter the lost dialog's title, whole or in part, and click OK.
The title search is case sensitive, so the case of what you enter must be an exact match to the dialog's title.

For a successful find, a dialog with a matching title is moved to the upper left corner of your monitor.
If a match can't be found, this dialog displays:

Review the text you entered to be sure it's correct.

Found or not, FindLostDialog.exe runs once.
To perform another search, you must run the utility again.

Example searches for the "Link to property" dialog (still visible, but you'll see the result):
"Link" is the search term:

Click OK And the search begins. If found, the dialog is moved to the upper left (always to this spot) and the utility closes:

Any portion of the title (of the correct case) will also work.
A search using "prop" will also be successful:

Any mismatch in case, even though the word itself is valid, will result in failure.
Searching for "LINK" fails to find the dialog:
