Top-Ten List success
I just noticed that the top-ten list is open. It's only been open for eight days and already they have TWO ideas posted!

Re: Top-Ten List success
Good chance to get your idea in the top ten if only ten get submitted. Mine will be to kill CloudWorks and move development budget back to DesktopWorks.

I would log into that mess to vote for that.

Honestly, they need to hire you with a stupid high salary just so you can name stuff for them.
Example;
Customer: "CloudWorks. What is that?"
Sales: "It's Solidworks on the cloud."
Customer: "Oh, so is there still a Solidworks like we're used to?"
Sales: "Yep, that's called DesktopWorks now, same product as before though."
Customer: "Ok, thanks for the clarity."

It would be absolutely hilarious if they let it go (of course Matthew Hall will kill it as soon as he logs on...) I'm positive if left alone by DSS it would make it into the Top Ten, if not number one.mattpeneguy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 8:25 am I voted to "transfer this idea to an app"...

Seeing the number of ideas that have been implemented in the last 20 years coming from these Top10 lists kind of removes any will to participate for me. It's all just a publicity stunt to stir the pot and bring people's hope up.

Far be it from me to defend the folks at Dassault, but yesterday I was looking back at my "Solidworks Wish List" that I've been keeping for quite a while, and I was surprised to see how many of them had been implemented. I'm not saying they were all implemented well, but at least they had made an effort.

After Scott's "One and Two" thread got canned (seemingly because whoever is masquerading as Top Ten List Admin doesn't know what it means) I've created these two to explicitly call out what is needed.

Streamline the UI/keystrokes for all features etc.
Sometimes you use the mouse button, sometimes tab, sometimes "a", sometimes you can not really go to the next field without using your mouse.......
Is that more 'fixing bugs' or optimize?

Re: Top-Ten List success
I get a rather cynical kick out of the TTL Admin's pre-canned response to undesirable feedback: "Thank you for submitting this idea. We greatly value your feedback." [in fact, we value it so much that we are going to scrap it.....]
We shouldn't shoot the messenger, but some days it's pretty tempting.

They did try that one year & they fell flat on their face even though the beta testers told them it didn't work with their new so called "colorblind" light blue/lighter blue/light grey color scheme that it gave everyone headaches trying to figure out what was what because there was little to no contrast to tell anything apart. I'd opt to stay with the colors they've had for the last 20 some years.

Re: Top-Ten List success
Someone had posted a link to the Top10 from the last 20 years, and I counted, if I recall, 13 ideas being implemented out of 200. That's not a very good number, but to be fair, One and two were part of those ideas, so there were probably others that could have somewhat been filtered out.Glenn Schroeder wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 10:05 am Howdy Alex,

Yeah, 13 out of 200 isn't a very good average. Out of curiosity I'm planning to record the top ten each Friday when I first log in. This is the top ten as of this morning:
Re: Top-Ten List success
There has always been a lot of hostile feedback, but lately, this looks different. There is a growing focus from customers on the bigger business direction, less on the product details. This signals a change, but is it a change in the customers, DS, or both? I don't imagine anyone sees this as good news... well, maybe some people, but no one directly involved.dave.laban wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 8:49 am Out of curiosity I'm planning to record the top ten each Friday when I first log in. I mean, 4 of those ideas have already been canned and won't be progressing through to the "official" voting phase in January because they're not core SW functionality. Will just be interesting to see how high up the TTL they are even with just the votes at this point.matt wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:05 am There has always been a lot of hostile feedback, but lately, this looks different. Re: Top-Ten List success
I have been a blunt (some would say harsh) critic of the TTL ever since they took it off the Jive platform. I have been pleading with them to make some simple but helpful changes to make it less painful, but it seems their mantra is along the lines of "The beatings will continue until morale improves." I cannot bring myself to participate in its current state.Glenn Schroeder wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 10:05 am Howdy Alex,

That said, I'd like to follow-up what Glenn just said about implemented improvements. The TTL is just the list of ideas that get the top ten in votes from each year. The SWX development team does pay attention to all the suggestions for improving the software (though apparently they ignore ALL the suggestions for improving the Experience). A lot of these suggestions over the years have been implemented, but they just did not make it into the top ten in votes and therefore lacked that notoriety.
In a way the TTL is like a Kaizen sprint for enhancements. However, one of the big problems with the TTL is that these ideas are only temporary for us to see, disappearing right before SWXWorld starts (and yes, that is my passive-aggressive protest at their de-emphasizing SWX when they renamed World). Another BIG problem withe the TTL is that these ideas do not get an SPR assigned to them as they would if they were submitted as an Enhancement Request. @dave.laban has been kind enough to not only point this out, but to also add links to related SPR's. Thanks, Dave!!
I don't like wading into their swamp. I submit that the one in D.C. is not the only one that needs to be drained.

Interesting that seven of the top ten are related to either fixing the company, including undoing past mistakes, or the top-ten process. Only three are about software improvements.dave.laban wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 8:49 am Out of curiosity I'm planning to record the top ten each Friday when I first log in. Attached for reference are the 2020 TTL submissions in case you wish to repost previous TTL ideas.
The zip file contains the Swamp's HTML page that I saved at the end.
In the zip are "3DSwym SOLIDWORKS Top Ten 3DExperience World 2020.html" and its linked folder of the same name.
This folder contains all of the various page bits so that the rendering is accurate.
Extract both to the same location and double click the html file.
Just the summary is shown for each idea as this was all that was available from the main ideas page.
But if a link is visible, double-clicking it will take you there (assuming the URL is still valid or accessible).
Also attached is an Excel summary of these same ideas and their authors.
I didn't partake in last year's TTL so I have no similar data.

However I got another one shortly after and then, holy smokes, they've actually let this idea go through to the next stage. Was NOT expecting that.

Re: Top-Ten List success
I've got a new idea for the TTL that would be very popular with users at least.......Sell Desktopworks to Siemens, let DSS keep 3DEXERIENCE, because all the users want that anyway. Siemens is smart enough to know where their bread is buttered, unlike the DSS execs. Now Siemens would really have a corner on the CAD market with SWX, SE, and NX. Heh, they could even make the programs talk back and forth and share files.
Just a pipe dream....but still interesting to think about.

Okaaaaaayyyyy. Several questions:
1) I thought the TTL was only for SWX. Adding other software just dilutes it. On second thought, maybe that's intentional.
2) xShape hasn't had a fillet tool until now?!?!?
