"Replace 3DEXPERIENCE with Desktop SWX " had 29 votes last I checked. It's interesting that it beat ONE and TWO until it was nuked. That would tell DSS something about the user-base if they were only willing to listen.dave.laban wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 9:40 am In fairness actual voting doesn't begin until Jan 3rd, however because Likes = Votes and they can't disable Likes temporarily, anyone with half a brain has been voting already as Ideas are generated rather than waiting to wade through the ridiculous list come January.
I've just been amusing myself keeping track of it during this phase, mostly to see how the deleted Ideas would stack up come the final reckoning.

Doesn't that give you warm fuzzy feelings about the future of Desktopworks?

I have not had any warm fuzzies from any software ads/propaganda in the past several years, especially CAD.mike miller wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 9:33 am 2021-12-22 09_31_42.jpg

Have just snuck in a few ideas, just before the deadline. None of them belongs to me, though.
My clients deserve all the credit (some of them are members of this forum, too).

Re: Top-Ten List success
As of this morning, very few votes have been registered. That is too bad, because there are a lot of interesting ideas.

It's about on track for the same voting levels as last year.

When #1 has 38 votes and #10 has 21... it does not look good. Browsing ideas and voting is soooo simple to do in the new format.dave.laban wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:47 am It's about on track for the same voting levels as last year.

Re: Top-Ten List success
I'm confused about where to vote (as if the rest of that site isn't confusing...). We were told that the TTL 2022 community will go away on Jan. 6 and a new one will appear with all of the "approved" ideas for official voting. As far as I can see that community is still there and official voting is not open yet.
Talk about voter suppression.

You vote by Liking a post. Because they can't disable Liking on an ad hoc basis, Voting has in fact always been open.mike miller wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:13 am I'm confused about where to vote (as if the rest of that site isn't confusing...). It was never the case that the Community would disappear on Jan 6th, that's just when they'd stop accepting new Ideas. Everything in the Community is up for voting.

Is that sarcasm? I haven't found ANYTHING easy on that site. (In fairness, I have put zero effort into trying to navigate that site.)

No, it is not sarcasm. IMHO, navigating the TTL and voting on ideas is extremely simple.
Read each idea and decide if you like it or not. This year there are not a lot of ideas submitted, so I could read all of them in a few minutes.

I don't know about big draw, I think the best you can say it was bigger when the original forum ran.
The actual amount of input from Solidworks users is miniscule compared to the user base.
Bravo to Alin for submitting ideas from his clients. Question there why don't we see other VAR doing that?

I am not sure i agree with this
And i do think that it is really not "FAIR" for those idea which is submitted early.... IT is buried DEEP inside the funnel (it took several minute of scrolling and scrolling just to find some of the idea that i submitted early)
Well...I not sure is this even a good thing. (For those who is curious, a total of 347 "IDEA" is submitted)This year there are not a lot of ideas submitted, so I could read all of them in a few minutes.
But consider SWYMP being SWYMP, i guess this is expected?
Far too many items in the world are designed, constructed and foisted upon us with no understanding-or even care-for how we will use them.
Re: Top-Ten List success
I think it is a combination of things that have accumulated over a number of years.
1. From the comments I've seen, many of the ideas that had a lot of support don't get implemented.
2. Being told "we only want to hear about functional improvements to the program" when we are all screaming about loosing online licensing, and many other issues. While I understand that isn't the point of the TTL, it is still obvious that our real concerns are going unheard.
3. The Swamp was the final straw.

I see your point. On the other hand, ideas submitted early had a head start for getting votes.Zhen-Wei Tee wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 6:02 pm I am not sure i agree with this

Based on my experience, the ideas that get most votes are the ones that are being spoon-fed to the users. For example, as an AE, I cannot expect my busy clients to take the time to formulate, write and submit their ideas on their own. Very few would find time to do that.
I feel it is my duty to actively collect such ideas from my interactions with them during the year and do all the submission work on their behalf.
Once their ideas are accepted in the TTL, I compile their links in an email and send it to them. As a result, they find it very easy to vote on their ideas.

TTL update 2022-01-17:
1. Linear Pattern - Allow Staggers (39)
2. Focus More on Increasing Stability (38)
3. Focus More on Fixing Bugs (35)
4. More Functionality for Breadcrumbs (31)
5. Allow more options for attaching entities to other entities in drawings (30)
6. When parent features are suppressed, children should have the option to remain unsuppressed and dangling or having the external relations frozen (29)
7. Assembly Cut- Extrude to have the same end conditions as a Cut-Extrude in Parts (28)
=. Ability to redefine the Horizontal direction in a sketch, by selecting an existing edge or a line from another sketch (28)
9. Add the "Flip Side to Cut" option for Revolve-Cut, similar to Extrude-Cut (27)
10. Provide a better way of re-attaching dangling dimensions (22)
Still pretty low vote numbers but quite a good collection of ideas so far.

Last chance to vote!
I have a short list of last-minute favorites:
1. Assembly: Duplicate pattern (inspired from SolidEdge)
https://r1132100503382-eu1-3dswym.3dexp ... WQ0GQaI1BQ
Benefits: Combine Insert Component with Instant Mate References – Unbelievable time-savings for assembly users!
This idea is a gem that at this time has not been notified by the voters. Imagine you have a screw inserted 100 times in an assembly in various locations. All instances of the screw are mated.
Now, add a nut to the screw and mate it. Then simply use the new Duplicate Pattern to instantly copy the nut to all existing instances of the screw, along with its mates related to the original screw.
Genius, I know!!!
2. Make SOLIDWORKS go multi-core

3. Ability to replace templates

4. Provide a better way of re-attaching dangling dimensions

Do you know if it is better to vote for enhancement requests from the Knowledge base or the ER search?
If I search the knowledge base for the number, I get a window that looks like this when I select it the SPR:
If I search from the ER menu, when I click on the SPR, I get a button to "Vote on this enhancement" that leads me to this screen.
Does anyone know which is better?Re: Top-Ten List success
Wow! This is so pitiful, only 49 votes so far for the top item. A few years ago we had over 200 votes for the #1 item, and that was when you had a more restricted time period and had to actually vote rather than just "Like" an idea.dave.laban wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:18 am No idea when they'll turn off the voting tomorrow so here's how things stand at the moment:

Voting increased significantly in intensity this morning. Top ideas are now in the 60's. Not huge, but a 20% increase in 24 hours.

Those numbers are still pitiful. The TTL used to mean something significant to the users and to SWX.

It's so easy. You just need to log into the site and watch about 10 how-to-use-this-site videos. Then you need to learn to use hashtags and the 6W tags. There might even be a certificate for all of this.

Re: Top-Ten List success
Case in point, 38 people voted for my "Breakout Counterbores to Avoid ZTG" idea in the last 24 hours of the TTL. I'm now wondering if that was enough to push it in to the Top Ten or if other ideas had similar surges? Was that idea in particular shared somewhere significant / by someone significant to gain that much attention in one hit?
Re: Top-Ten List success
Good question. One thing that happened 2 days before the deadline was the publishing of the TTL-related article on the engineersrule.com.dave.laban wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 3:47 am Case in point, 38 people voted for my "Breakout Counterbores to Avoid ZTG" idea in the last 24 hours of the TTL. A bit more than 1000 views, maybe it had a 10-vote conversion rate...

Has there been a real Q&A for the TTL since 2019 Dallas? At that session in Dallas they blew through the list, killed the Q&A, and went off on some 3DX tangents. I don't want to go through that again.

Yes, last year was a pretty intense conversation. The PD team is pretty good at answering questions and also following up with emails.

I think it was recorded. The beginning was interesting, seeing how many ideas where implemented throughout the years. Also, how ideas from outside top 10 were also implemented.
Re: Top-Ten List success
That was a virtual award, I think.
Really, the story behind the number of ideas submitted is very simple. I have a few very passionate clients that have great ideas. I simply submitted them and... that is all.
