Nowhere on the label did it say that I couldn't use if for automotive applications.

In my younger years I had a used 1980 Camaro that spent spent far too much time in the salt encrusted northern winters. When one of the exhaust pipes snapped just ahead of the muffler and I didn't have the cash or tools to repair it I took a steel soup can, cut both ends off, slit it down the side wrapped it around the two halves of the pipe an used two worm gear hose clamps to hold it. I think I drove it for about a year like that.
