The Administrator is a dummy account used so that noone gets 'personally targeted'. Most likely the person who posted that on the account hasn't logged back on it to respond to you. It is the same account used to transfer ideas from the previous portal to the platform. It most likely has so many notifications that it's impossible to keep track of.

And even then, I doubt you'll get a direct answer on that. The line has been drawn and they are not going to diverge from it.

Perhaps they could use some AI chat bot like the other social media PLATFORMS are doing. Artificial Innovation that is.

Not sure if they're talking about 3DEx:
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/a ... revolution
As they exist today, the tools and techniques that comprise the catchphrase 'digital engineering' generally center around the use of very high-fidelity digital design models – often called "digital twins" – as well as additional advanced software modeling, cooperative virtual working environments, and very high-end simulation. These simulations can go well beyond basic performance modeling and into the realm of complete synthetic combat environments. Alternate and virtual reality technologies are increasingly being integrated into this ecosystem, as well, to help blend digital and physical engineering work.

Clearly all these capabilities are important today and promising for tomorrow, but the idea that the virtual environment will rapidly displace the physical one, especially in terms of testing and activities after design, is another story. As is the notion that these tools will solve much of the Air Force's chronic development woes.

I feel this is an article about all the different technology toolsets. There really are no industry terms that an CAx or PLM company uses to define "cooperative working environments". What does the author mean by "Alternate reality". Maybe they mean Augmented instead??

So this type of issue would likely get caught.....especially something that basic. This is my problem with a cloud systems where they upgrade everyone to the latest changes and you have no choice but to accept it.
Just a quick note. That is only if you are using a multi-tenant cloud. There are also different types of 3DEXP solutions. Especially if you have a regulated design process- say FDA.

@matt,
Sure am. I think I'm a little older than you...If I had to guess.
All I remember really is the stuttering that he did. It was a little while ago and just remember how weird it was for the time.
Edit to add: I still hold to my original post that Zap Brannigan would make a better avatar...You have to admit this is DS type logic:

Wow! Recognized his voice from that commercial. The actor was Matt Frewer. He's been in a lot of things I've watched. He's had a pretty good career in television:

I guess the digitization was also based on his face...I didn't even realize it.

When I re-watched some of the Max Headroom stuff, I could see a character in my mind, but didn't remember immediately who it was. Then it came to me - the time traveling charlatan from Star Trek Next Generation, you can see the resemblance:

what about 3DExperience in ... shipbuilding! :) for me it's a BIG JUMP (not step) in back direction! every "advance" thing not working properly in a real project, every small or big thing need to be made in...french way ( if it is one!) known only by DS...and after many work hours you will have a biiiig list of errors! they put together a lot of ...things but...still in progress...like I said to my colleagues, it's a future platform not present one! I want to see (or not) first ship "created" on 3DExperience.

This is my experience after 3 month full time in solidworks desktop and 3DX
- General a realy nice PLM if working from web and no server.
- Problems:
- Save as, and include drawing,
- Edit a part from assy and close it have not saved the changes
- Hot fix today remove SW title is not unique
- Description on beam in weldment cut list is not there, so one not see HEA180 etc
- Configuration name on drawing title in some drawings
- Slow performance export .step, see 7MB/s uploading from/to 3DX, middle of Sweden

But I can build a sub and guarantee it sink

I think I asked elsewhere for some examples of people/companies that were using it successfully for production development. I don't think I got an answer.

Well, not much imagination required to draw parallels to Ocean Gate specifically.

In general, subs aren't supposed to sink any more than ships or airplanes. They dive.

anyway, I work in ship design, until now with dedicated software like Tribon, Aveva or Cadmatic but now, this, I don't know how to call it, let's say, "platform", it will be a big challenge, not to do my job, but to be able to do my job "successfully" , as ... "software tester".

Is there a way to find big companies using the platform?

It would just be interesting to see what kind of large company has either dropped the desktop version and migrated or new large company decided to go with the platform from scratch.

I have feeling companies with a long background in CAD(engineering/product design) will be few and far between taking up the platform.

Hey, I got an invitation! I have to admit I never actually read it, I just took a screen shot of it and brought it over here because I figured someone would be entertained. I couldn't bring myself to read something so heavily peppered with all those CAPITAL LETTERS. If someone actually reads it, let me know if I'm missing out on something.

while cloud is pushed hard on us, as a manufacturing company it does not feel good to have the engineering 3d data out of our factory.
Lag and bandwidth bottlenecks aside, that are going to cost us in terms of productivity, this is going to unbalance the relation with our CAD supplier even more at their sole advantage.

All the arguments they give are futile and simple sale speeches. They aren't even valid arguments that say "Look, this is better then that", it just says "Well it's a car, so it's got wheels!"

Cloud data is secure because Cloud hosts invest in security! Sure, but that security is still more prone to hacking then a local server and most likely less secure.

Cloud downtime is reduced to a minimum! Sure, but the minimum downtime for Cloud is still far greater then the downtimes of local servers.

Cloud isn't as expensive as it's made out to be, but having your data locked behind a paywall can certainly bring it's lot of expense.

This I'm not finding to be true in all cases. Our PDM servers for example, we have one DB server and 3 replication servers. Then two development/test servers that are both DB and Archive each.

Before moving them to Azure, We replaced the 4 production servers every 5 years at around $5000 each. The old production servers became the new Dev/Test servers, so they were bought and paid for.

On Premise
$26,000 every five years (4 servers at $5000 each + $6000 for three tape backup systems)
$5200 per year
$433 per month

Azure servers
$4500 per month (6 servers x $750 each)
$54,000 per year
$270,000 per 5 years

There are infrastructure and labor costs I can't easily add for on-prem but I'm skeptical it makes up the difference. Also, we are losing some productivity going from 1ms on premise latency to 35-40ms Azure latency. Any SolidWorks models read from a network drive is 5-10x slower and PDM is slower to download and upload.

There are certainly cases where cloud makes more sense. I think a hybrid approach is better and more cost effective. But our company is convinced that IT needs to be completely outsourced and offsite.

Ouch, why are you replacing your servers so often..? We changed our server last year but the previous one dated from before I joined the company so it was well over 15 years old. I agree that labor and maintenance can be grevious but I'd say that applies to both ends. We work from our network and the speed is very similar to working locally, though we did have to do adjustments and the network drives our files are located on are SSD.

IT policy at the time. Servers every 5 years.......engineering user PCs/laptops every 3 and general office users every 4. Old PCs and server would replace older test PCs and server.
