STEEL GAUGE

Unread post by Bryan O »

I would like to have an annotation read the gauge of the sheet metal part its attached to.
Anyone know the property for that?

Is the gauge of the sheet metal a property inside the part?

You could link the annotation to the custom property and create a "favorite" of it or save it externally to use it in other drawings. You might have to tweak a few things but you should get the hang of it.

For instance, we call out config names to show the different configuration used

I was hoping there was something like $PRP:"SW-Sheet Metal Parameter"

Hrm I doubt you'll have a SW generated property for gauges, maybe I am mistaken though. On our end we don't use gauges because we require decimals to be sent to our ERP so we write the decimals and add the gauge as an annotation.

I use this on the sheet metal drawings "Thickness@Sheet-Metal" mm Sheet.
Ideas are simple, once you've thought of them

I believe he wants a display such as "14ga" rather then imperial/metric measures.

If you use Gage tables, can you pull that info from the table? (not sure how this would work, but trying to spitball ideas)

I don't think so. Our tables have gauges but the gauges are in decimals (imperial in our case). The information contained within the table cannot be accessed anywhere else but from within the command as far as I'm aware and even then they are only "displayed"

So for instance, our 11Ga is 0.1196" in thickness.

Yes, that was what I was hoping but @AlexLachance is correct, can't get there from here.

That reminds me how much I loved when we had a distinction inside the company between 3mm, 11ga, and 1/8 in steel sheets. Thankfully we're far away from that nonsense lol

Could you write a macro to read that information and apply it to the drawing?

New in SW 2023:

===========================
To link annotations to gauge values:
In a drawing of a sheet metal part, click an annotation, such as Note .
In the PropertyManager, click Link to Property .
In the Link to property dialog box, in Property name, select Sheet Metal Gauge.
