can "On Edge" mates be repaired?

Unread post by Mike Gera »

Is it possible to repair an On Edge mate? They are usually (always?) created by the Convert Entities command.

I'll often find them broken in out-of-context situations. Please see the screenshot below.

Yes, deleting the sketch entity and re-executing the Convert Entities command is quick and easy but the side effect is orphaning anything that was bonded to the originally-converted entity.

And yes, deleting and replacing the On Edge mate with other mates that ultimately equal the On Edge mate also works but is more steps.

Thanks for any replies.

Yes it's possible to repair relations. See the GIF below for how that works.

Thanks, @AlexB. That's really helpful, in more ways than one.

I just discovered that it's a bit more difficult when the sketch entity is still directly atop of what it needs to be re-mated to and there's no way to temporarily drag it out of the way. Haven't quite figured that out yet...

Yeah, there are some limitations. The main issues are when the "edge" type changes such as from an arc to a spline for example. It's a good tool but as with anything Solidworks, it doesn't always work.
