Getting geo tolerance symbols into a block

Unread post by rjt205 »

I need to make up tolerance blocks that match our customers for our fabrication process. Some have geometric tolerances in them and when I create a block of the tolerance, I am not able to pick the geo tols as part of the block. Is there something I can do to get them into the block?

I believe you have to explode them and/or reproduce them as "sketches".

I tried to explode them, no luck. I started drawing sketch lines over the boxes, but was hoping for a more elegant way.

Unfortunately, these are the only things that you can include inside a block.

Then, I thought that you could take a block, then add a geometric tolerance outside of it, then group them together, But you can't do that either.

But you CAN group notes and geometric tolerances together. But you cannot add a group of items into the library as one item.

But you CAN insert a geometric tolerance into a note:

BUT....as soon as you add that note to a group.... it changes to this:

So THAT's super useful. o[ grumph

But if you edit the block, it switches back to normal, but as soon as you leave the edit block screen, it reverts to that garbled mess above.

(by the way, I am seeing this in SW 2022 SP4. Maybe someone else will see a different block mess than I did in a different version)

There's an open SPR requesting the ability to add other annotation types.

SPR147307 -- Allow surface finish, geometric tolerance (GTOL), datum and weld symbol annotations to be selectable entities for making blocks
BUT....as soon as you add that note to a group.... it changes to this:

This can be corrected. If you select the block and look at the property manager you will see that the block scale is not 1:

Change it to 1 and the block will correct itself, but it will be huge:

You can edit the block and set the annotation to use the document font:
image.png
You'll have to move the annotation to get it back near the block insertion point, and once you do that you can exit the block and it will be good to go.

Aha!! I knew I was missing something.

Thank you for pointing that out.
