Hello everyone,
How do you prepare your data that you give out to other companies if your data is stored in PDM with automatically generated serial numbers?
When exchanging as native SWX data, at least the entries in the properties are still included, but when exchanging via the neutral format, the recipient has an incredibly difficult time finding his way around the structure tree of the assembly.
Does anyone know of a way to export an entire project and rename the file names with the values contained in the properties? It would be great if the drawings could also be renamed accordingly without losing the reference to the model.
Exchange of SWX data from PDM with serial number to SWX without PDM, or CAx per step.

All the "good" news about SWX makes me feel like I'm driving a truck with two trailers straight into a dead end.

You can publish an eDrawings that includes all of you custom properties. Then you can show the properties pane inside edrawings and as you select parts, it will display them.
For STEP, I don't see an option unless you have the MBD module that allows for exporting to STEP 242. That appears to allow custom property export in the STEP file.. Stinks that they haven't included it in the core version.

I know the option with the properties and the Edrwaingsviewer. That really is a great thing.
But it doesn't solve my problem when my customer expects native Solidworks data or Step data.
As soon as my time allows I will try the following:
1. copy complete project with structure into a temporary directory.
2. rename all data in the temp directory with a dispatch.
3. copy all data to another computer, disconnect from the server and test whether all references are there or not.
I am curious what happens to the references when I rename them using Dispatch.
