Windows Explorer address bar does not update current file path when browsing inside PDM Vault View folders on Windows 11 after installing 26 September 2023 Configuration Update KB5030509
Description
On 26th September 2023, Microsoft has released a 'Configuration Update for Windows 11 (KB5030509)'. Its details can been seen here > https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/top ... 116fe164ba
This update moves the address bar above the ribbon bar and makes some changes to the ribbon bar layout. In addition, it changes some behaviors of the address bar.
If this update is installed on a Windows 11 machine, Windows Explorer address bar no longer update the path while browsing PDM vault view folders. Other non-PDM folders works fine.
To reproduce;
1) Assuming you have a vault view in C:\PDMViews named 'ACME PDM Vault'
2) Browse to 'C:\' > Address bar shows 'C:'
3) Browse to 'C:\PDMViews' > Address bar shows 'C:\PDMViews'
4) Browse to 'C:\PDMViews\ACME PDM Vault' > Address bar shows 'C:\PDMViews'
5) Browse to 'C:\PDMViews\ACME PDM Vault\Projects' > Address bar shows 'C:\PDMViews'
File save and open dialogs of SOLIDWORKS and other applications are working as expected. There are no other known workaround and it is not possible to uninstall this update.
__end kb article
My provisional test results about a possible mitigation:
if you have a file inside a folder and you want to copy and paste its path, RMB the file and select "copy path" it will copy also the file name, so you need to delete it to get the clean folder path.
UPDATE
another workaround is launch the old control panel and press the up arrow twice: old explorer is loaded and you can browse the vault with it.
shortcut
c:\windows\explorer.exe shell:controlpanelfolder
UPDATE2
The control panel trick is adopted as official workaround in the KB LOL
