Extent Error
Extent Error
The other sketches in the part extruded without problem.
Can anyone shed any light as to what I am doing wrong?

Re: Extent Error
Hard to say from the pic, but is it trying to add material or remove material? What's the Extent Depth... is it Zero?
Re: Extent Error
The message says to flip the direction. Is your target on the other side of the part?

Re: Extent Error
Thanks for replying.
I am wanting to extrude symmetrically but the symmetric button is greyed out in the list of options. As soon as I select the sketch to extrude in either direction I get the error. I am not given the chance to input an extrude depth.

I've attached the file if this helps

Re: Extent Error
The steps are.
1) select extrude.
2)Select on Add/Cut. I picked Add.
3) On the Sketch step in the dropdown box pick Select from Sketch .
select the sketch regions click on the green tick
4) on Extent step I picked mid plane 5) Finish.
Hope this helps.

Re: Extent Error
Hi,
These are the same steps that I have been using but I still get the error. I've tried remaking the sketch but still cannot get it to extrude.

Re: Extent Error
You need to select the regions of the sketch to extrude as it is not a simple closed boundary. My screen shot shows 2 selected regions. When a region is selected it turns green.
Ideas are simple, once you've thought of them
Re: Extent Error
My selections are also green, but after hitting the green tick button to accept the selection I get the above photo where the selections turn a shade of blue. Also, I cannot the symmetric extent as it is greyed out as seen in photo. Selecting either of the other extents makes no difference.
Re: Extent Error
Maybe this helps show the problem a bit better.

Re: Extent Error
Hi,
You have to use "Finite extent" instead of through all in Extent step!

Re: Extent Error
Ronan 1961, your video is exactly what I am trying to do but unfortunately, for whatever reason I get the error as soon as I accept the selection with the green tick mark.
Re: Extent Error
Try a sketch with a single closed boundary. Beyond that I don't know. I would upload my part but I am using the Community Edition and the Professional edition won't open it's files.

Re: Extent Error
This has worked. After setting a distance in "Finite extent" the symmetric button which was previously greyed became active again allowing me to complete the extrude. Many thanks to all who contributed
