Re: Modeling spiral-wound steel cylinder in Solidworks

We used spiral wound aluminium tubing extensively back in the day to manufacture long cylindrical pressure vessels - high voltage gas insulated busbars. So you have a required tube diameter and strip width - what is the wrap angle ? Best explanation I've found is this: https://www.apogeerockets.com/...

Re: Going to Fusion 360 (possibly)

But you have the choice of not renewing but retain the use of the software and all your data, no so with Fusion 360.

Re: SW2016 and Windows 11

Many thanks, 2016 System Options / File Explorer / Restore File Associations doesn't work in Windows 11 however you pointed me in the right direction. Go to - Control Panel / Default Programs / Choose defaults by file type - and associate .sldasm, .slddrw & .sldprt with Solidworks Launcher and a...

SW2016 and Windows 11

For reasons of compatibility with a client we use Solidworks 2016 on Windows 11, all works except...... After initial installation Windows Explorer integration is fine, Solidworks files have the correct icons and the right click pack and go menu works. However on running Solidworks the Explorer Inte...

Re: Smallest Feature Size

Read this interesting post by a Oneshape employee ? https://forum.onshape.com/discussion/13932/why-the-size-limit Looks like the Parasolid kernel is unitless and has limits of 1e-8 to 1e3 CAD Vendors decide what their base unit will be. So for meters that would equate to 1e-5 mm to 1e3 m which seems...

Re: Need some advice on subscription

From my experience, when your subscription ends that is when your entitlement to new SP's ends. So if Solidworks 2023 SP1 was the latest version when your subscription ended that is the newest version you are entitled to. You won't be allowed later SP's. Having been off subscription for 4 years now...

Smallest Feature Size

What's the smallest size that Solidworks can deal with ? I think it used to be 0.001 mm back in the day but just tried moving some bodies in SW 2016 and it accepts moves down to 0.0001, beyond that it seems to round to 0.0001 mm, i.e move 0.00009 mm and it moves 0.0001 mm In SDRC I-Deas we knew this...

Re: Importing 3D PDF into SOLIDWORKS

Provided the 3D PDF has been written with precise PRC data and not just facets Adobe Acrobat / Tetra4D can export a STEP from the PDF. We do this occasionally to get 3D PDF into Solidworks.

Re: Continuous Release

The "continuous release system" is basically no different than it ever was. It's only the terminology and some optional added capabilities (auto updates etc) that have changed. It' still a sequence of major releases, minor releases and hot fixes. Major releases are not backward compatible,...

Re: File (sldprt) won't Save.

Have you been inserting and deleting base parts in a derived part ?

2016 SP0 has a nasty bug where if you insert a part and then delete it the derived part file won't save, supposted to be fixed in later service packs.

Is it possible to add autocreated centrelines to a drawing view after the view has been created rather than on view creation ?
